Max Grogan (pronouns: they, them, theirs) is a Student Education and Empowerment Program Manager in the Center for Belonging and Social Change and a lecturer for the Department of Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies.

Originally from Virginia, Max earned their undergraduate degree from Lynchburg College and their master’s degree from The State University of New York at Buffalo. They completed their PhD in English with minors in Gender and Women’s Studies and Queer Studies at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Their doctoral research intervenes into queer theory to consider how climate change impacts the queer and crip futures we’re able to imagine and enact.

During their PhD, they served as a graduate consultant in the Writers Workshop, Humanities Without Walls fellow in the Women’s Resource Center, graduate fellow at the Humanities Research Institute, and teaching assistant and instructor of record in Gender and Women’s Studies. Across these experiences, their favorite was designing and teaching a course on Feminist and Gender Theory. Prior to joining The Ohio State University in 2022, Max worked professionally as the Assistant Director of Graduate Student Engagement for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the University of Illinois.

Across their research, teaching, and work, Max has been driven by a passion for making the world a more socially just place. As a queer, non-binary, disabled person, Max understands social justice as intersectional and coalitional. Ultimately, they strive to make the university a space where students from historically marginalized backgrounds feel like they belong. They are thrilled to be part of the Buckeye community!
