In 2008, the Department of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies re-opened the Elizabeth D. Gee Grants for Research in Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies. Funding comes from the Elizabeth D. Gee Research on Women Endowed Fund. The Research and Development Committee administers the grants. The max award amount is $1,200.
Applications for the 2023 awards cycle will be accepted no later than October 25 at 5:00pm.
Legacy
The Elizabeth D. Gee Research on Women Endowed Fund is the outgrowth of a long-standing program of small grants administered by the Department and its predecessors - the Center for Women's Studies and the Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies Program - since the late 1970s. The small grants program was re-named in honor of Elizabeth D. Gee in recognition of her scholarship in the fields of education and feminist ethics and in appreciation of her commitment to raising funds for Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies research. The endowment is supported by donations from family, friends, and colleagues of the late Dr. Gee and the department.
Eligibility
Applicants must be Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies students who have completed the candidacy exams successfully at the time of application or be near completion. Recipients of a previous Elizabeth D. Gee Research award are ineligible to apply. No funds will be released until candidacy exams have been passed and a prospectus has been approved by your dissertation committee. Students must be enrolled to receive funding.
Applicants may apply for both an Elizabeth D. Gee Grant for Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies Research and a Coca-Cola Critical Difference for Women Research Grant. If approved for both awards, the awardee may accept both.
Criteria
Awards will be made based on the student's academic record, including awards or nominations for awards; timely progress toward candidacy and/or completion of degree; the quality of the proposed research; and scholarship, including presentation of papers at scholarly conferences and publications.
Disbursement of Funds
Please note that Federal regulations require that all scholarships and financial resources, excluding compensation, received by a student be included as part of their financial aid package and as such they may be subject to taxation. In order to comply with federal regulations and university procedures and to simplify the process for everyone, we will process these through the Office of Student Financial Aid. The award will appear on your Statement of Account and issued as a refund.
Receipts are not required for these travel grants but other university awards may differ.
Direct Deposit. Please note that you must set up your direct deposit in order to receive any financial aid refunds electronically, otherwise a paper check will be mailed. This can be setup through SIS/BuckeyeLink and it is different than your payroll direct deposit.
