James Sanders III

Associate Professor, Department of Art Education

James H. Sanders III heads the Arts Policy and Administration Program's Museum Education specialization within the Department of Art Education.  His research in arts education policy/pedagogy, and nonprofit organizational management is concerned with social and political performances and the production of social subjects. Committed to human rights and social justice his arts-based research in visual culture, gay and lesbian studies, and queer theory have been published in dozens of peer reviewed journals and book chapters. Centrally concerned with how meanings and values are socially constructed, performed and contested, his interdisciplinary work is committed to collaborative inquiry, presentation and publication. Sanders is has served as an editor of the Journal of LGBT Youth, and serves on the Editorial Board of the journal of Visual Culture and Gender, Studies in Arts Education, and Journal of Social Theory in Art Education.
