Katie Slaven was awarded an internship this fall with the sexual empowerment coach and sex educator Amy Jo Goddard. Katie is a fourth year psychology major with a sexuality studies minor, who has learned a great deal about the importance of self-acceptance in the areas of gender and sexuality through her studies. Because of her education, she has been able to work well with Amy Jo who teaches women and couples to maximize the potential of their sexual and personal selves through her workshops and individual discussions.

She has worked with Amy Jo and her team to expand their social media presence in order to market the events Amy Jo has put on this semester for women across the country, as well as to promote Amy Jo’s brand by sharing content related to relationships, gender, sexuality, LGBTQ issues, and feminism. Katie has had a great experience that has allowed her the unique opportunity to see what she has learned here in her sexuality studies courses applied to helping women. In fact, she was able to attend Amy Jo’s Sex Money Power Women’s Weekend in San Francisco, where she watched Amy Jo teach, inspire, and empower women in profound ways. With this experience, Katie hopes to one day work with organizations that are focusing on women’s issues in hopes of empowering women in a similar ways.
