Stay tuned for more information on the 2015 HipHop Literacies Conference!
The 2015 conference theme is "Hiphop Studies Futures.” Many researchers, educators, artists, and youth advocates use Hiphop to create dynamic futures for Hiphop generation youth. We seek to illuminate both the state of and the new directions in Hiphop studies scholarship. We will address issues of identity, social stratification, globalization, popular culture and technology. The first day of the conference will feature workshops and keynotes from leading scholars in Hiphop studies; the second day will feature paper presentations from emerging and leading Hiphop Studies scholars, artists and educators. These presentations will be selected through a rigorous peer review process after an open call for abstracts. We will also continue to seek out other Hiphop-inspired groups both on and off campus, throughout the community, nationally and internationally to create a network of scholars, students, artists, educators and community members dedicated to using Hiphop as a form of empowerment and education.
This event is co-sponsored by Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies
