James H. Sanders III earned his Ph.D. in Education (Curriculum and Instruction) at the University of North Carolina Greensboro (1999), Master of Fine Arts degree at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale (1976), and Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Arkansas State University (1974). An Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University within the Arts Policy and Administration Program of the Department of Art Education, he heads the department’s Museum Education specialization. His research in arts education policy/pedagogy, and nonprofit organizational management is concerned with social and political performances and the production of social subjects. Committed to human rights and social justice his arts-based research in visual culture, gay and lesbian studies, and queer theory have been published in dozens of peer reviewed journals and book chapters. Centrally concerned with how meanings and values are socially constructed, performed and contested, his interdisciplinary work is committed to collaborative inquiry, presentation and publication. Sanders is an Associate Editor of the Journal of LGBT Youth, and serves on the Editorial Board of the journal of Visual Culture and Gender, Studies in Arts Education, and Journal of Social Theory in Art Education.
