Congratulations to Linda Mizejewski,Professor of Women's Studies and an affiliated faculty member of the Sexuality Studies Program, on the forthcoming publication of her new study of Frank Capra's It Happened One Night, the 1934 film that launched the genre of romantic comedy and challenged the ways Americans imagined marriage, romance, gender, and class difference. Professor Mizejewski's book examines key scenes and formal features of It Happened One Night, and explores its lasting importance in film history and in cultural studies.

Amy Bonomi Amy Bonomi
Professor Amy Bonomi, a member of the Oversight Committee of the Sexuality Studies Program and an Associate Professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Science, has received national attention for a new research study she headed that was published in the Oct. 12, 2009 issue of Archives of Internal Medicine. The study reveals that women abused by intimate partners suffer higher rates of a wide variety of medical problems, including those that are not typically associated with violence, than women who were never abused. "Year of Science" Speaker Nancy Jesser(10-12-09)

Dr. Nancy Jesser was a featured speaker on September 21 for the "Year of Science" program at the First Unitarian Universalist Church (UUC) of Columbus. Dr. Jesser, who regularly teaches a course on gender, sexuality, and science for the Sexuality Studies Program, led a discussion on the history of the relationship of science to sexuality (and gender) including the rise of modern science as arbiter of norms, the emergence of sexual identity, and the conflicts over biological and pyscho-social explanations made by scientists over the 20th century. Congratulations to Professor Donna Guy, Professor of History and Distinguished Professor of Humanities, on the publication of her new book, Women Build the Welfare State: Performing Charity and Creating Rights in Argentina, 1880-1955 (Duke UP). Included in this book are several chapters on the ways that Argentinian orphanages and juvenile deliquency specialists viewed adolescent sexuality. Professor Guy teaches History 326: History of Modern Sexualities and History 780: History of Sexuality.
